EXTERIOR TRANSFORMATION IN MILLERSVILLE

An interior designer that we had both worked with referred Carol S to me. She had a unique project in mind and needed some help. She and her husband had built their own home in the late 80’s, and though she absolutely loved her home, she was tired of the exterior and really wanted a completely different look.

There were several unique features of the home that she wanted to highlight, however they all needed to tie in with the new design. She wanted to focus on trim and also include a lot of stone, so we spent quite a few months looking at pictures on houzz.com and in home magazines to come up with ideas.

After taking design ideas from several different sources, we settled on specific trim details that would surround a new second story window. We also used a very thin cut stone that can be installed over regular house sheathing, eliminating the need for additional structural support but keeping the natural stone look and feel.

We completely transformed the front door opening by utilizing a mixture of horizontal siding with board and batten accents. We dressed up the sides and rear of the home, including the replacement of two custom trapezoid windows that had been original to the home, but had been installed incorrectly with the angle of the roofline…something that had been bothering her for 30 years!

I don’t think that either of us quite knew what to expect when we started this project. We must have changed our minds a dozen different times, but working together, we were able to come up with a perfect look and feel that was better than either of us could have imagined.
